    SHRM Rio Grande Valley welcomes human resource professionals, business professionals, and students in related programs to join us in advancing the profession of Human Resource Management.  Membership is open to individuals actively engaged in a professional, educational or consulting capacity within Human Resource Management.  The information below provides you with important information regarding this Chapter's membership, we recommend you read it fully.

    Qualifications for Membership

    Membership in the Chapter is neither transferable nor assignable. Membership is held in the individual's name, not an organization with which the member is affiliated. 

    Membership is effective from January 1 through December 31 and is renewed annually. To receive member rates at SHRM RGV events, your annual dues must be current. To renew your membership and have not received an invoice, please request a membership renewal invoice at We will reactive your membership status to Active once payment has been received.

    Membership Categories

    Professional Members

    Individuals who fall into one of the following categories: (a) engaged in the profession of human resource management at the exempt level for at least three years and who devote at least fifty percent (50%) of their time to personnel, human resources or industrial relations functions; (b) certified by the Human Resource Certification Institute; (c) certified by Society for Human Resource Management; (d) faculty members holding an assistant, associate or full professor rank in human resource management or any of its specialized functions at an accredited college or university and have at least three years of experience at this level of teaching; (e) full-time consultants with at least three (3) years experience in counseling and advising clients on matters relating to the human resource profession.  Professional members may vote and hold office in the Chapter.  Professional Members may choose Traditional Professional, Dual Professional, or Elite for dues structure categories.

    Associate Member

    Individuals in non-exempt human resource management positions as well as those individuals who do not meet the Professional member category, but who demonstrate a bona fide interest in human resource management and the mission of the Chapter. Associate members may not vote or hold office in the Chapter.

    Student Members

    Individuals who (a) do not fit into a Professional or Associate Member definition and (b) who are enrolled as students at the college or university level and are able to demonstrate an emphasis in human resource management subjects.  Student members may not vote or hold office in the Chapter.

    Membership Dues

    Payment must be submitted once you receive an invoice for your membership.  Membership is based on your selection and eligibility. 

    $200 Elite Membership ($100 reduced rate): This membership not only includes annual dues but grants you access to all regular Chapter Meetings throughout the year at no additional cost. This is a great membership option if you attend the majority of meetings as you will not have to worry about paying for your attendance throughout the year.  The reduced rate is only for 2021 due to virtual chapter meetings. 

    $50 Dual Professional Membership: If you are currently an active member of SHRM National, you can choose this membership which is a $25 discount off your Traditional Membership with the same member benefits. You must provide proof of your National SHRM membership payment of the current year to take advantage of this membership.

    $75 Traditional Professional Membership: This allows you to attend Chapter meetings at a discounted member rate as well as receive all the other benefits allotted to local Chapter membership.

    $100 Associate Membership: This allows you to attend Chapter meetings at a discounted member rate as well as receive some member benefits.

    $25 Student Membership: This allows you to attend Chapter meetings at a student rate as well as receive some membership benefits.

    Approval of Memberships

    The online membership application must be completed on this site.  Upon review and approval by the Board of Directors, you will be notified of your membership designation and will receive an invoice for the appropriate membership fee.
